Volunteers sought for geophysical survey, 4th-6th March 2016

We are looking for volunteers for the next geophysical survey on Petersfield Heath, Friday 4th March – Sunday 6th March in preparation for the next excavations in April/May.

This should be relatively straightforward and it is expected that the survey will be completed within two days. Sunday will be a back-up day in case of bad weather or other problems.

If you would like to come, please let Mary Haskins (haskins0@supanet.com) know which day(s) you are available by Friday 19th February. Initial rotas and joining instructions will be issued early the following week. Volunteers will meet in the car park about 9.15am to take equipment to site for a 9.30am start and will finish between 3pm and 4pm.

If you have not been involved in surveys before, you do need to be reasonably fit – there is a lot of walking and standing involved. The area of cleared scrub is uneven and there are the remains of small trees etc to trip the unwary. You will need stout shoes to protect your feet from the probes on the instrument plus clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. Please bring something to sit on during breaks, a packed lunch and plenty to drink. There are public toilets (and a café) but they are on the other side of the heath beyond the lake.
