Old Winchester Hill, overlooking the Meon Valley, has a superb Iron Age hillfort and a fine Early Bronze Age barrow cemetery, plus other ancient traces. The walk will convene at the main carpark (SU 645 214) at 10.15. Space in the carpark is fairly limited so, if possible, share cars with others coming. There are also a few places not far away on the road side, but please don’t occupy passing places.
The route out and back is on level ground, but there is the option of a roller-coaster return for those feeling more energetic. Stout footwear is advisable. The event is free, but it is necessary to book a place. Numbers may have to be limited.
